Ettringen is veruit het grootste klimgebied van de Eifel én het grootste klimgebied in de nabijheid van Nederland. In de voormalige steengroeves aan de voet van een oude vulkaan zijn ruim 1500 routes en boulders te vinden. De rots waarop je klimt is basalt en dat betekent dat er veel spleten, versnijdingen, kanten en hoeken zijn en maar bepekt 'normale' grepen. Daar komt bij dat je een deel van de routes zelf zult moeten afzekeren. Het maakt Ettringen tot een voor de regio uniek klimgebied.

- Klimstijl/steilte: wand/spleet/kant/versnijding (75-90°).
- Niveau routes: 4-8c+ (zwaartepunkt tussen 5+ en 7b).
- Gesteente: basalt.
- Expositie: alle windrichtingen.
- Beste jaargetijde: het gehele jaar.
- Vrij toegankelijk. Enkele in de topo genoemde sectoren zijn gesloten. Deze sectoren liggen op privé-terrein. Illegaal betreden is streng verboden en zet de situatie in het gebied verder op scherp. Check voor je gaat klimmen op www.klettern-ettringen.de of er nieuwe (tijdelijke) sluitingen zijn.
