It is not for nothing that Graz has one of the most active racing bike scenes in Austria. The city of 300,000 inhabitants is a super starting point for road bike tours of very different character. In the north of Graz, climbing specialists will find beautiful climbs, especially around the Schöckl. The Styrian volcano country can also be reached quickly. Numerous hills, some quite steep, and secluded side roads await you here.
You can also make great tours towards the south on a racing bike. After a leisurely start along the Mur, you reach the Südsteirische Hügelland with fantastic side roads and paths through a pristine landscape. In the Sausal valley in particular, you will find a super network of quiet side roads all the way to the border with Slovenia.
The most beautiful passes for racing bikes in Styria
Styria is not only blessed with wide, hilly landscapes, but also with alpine regions where wonderful mountain stages await female road cyclists in good shape. In the tourism stronghold of Schladming Dachstein there are numerous rewarding routes around König Dachstein. A mountain classic is the Türlwand über the Dachstein toll road, which ends directly at the valley station of the Dachstein cable car. Another dream tour is the one over the Sölkpass and Obertauern, i.e. around the Schladminger Tauern.
In the Gesäuse, there are several trails that can be combined into long tours. A good starting point for racing bike tours through this region of Styria is Admont, where you should also plan a visit to the largest abbey library in the world.
Continue eastwards to the Schladming Tauern.
Further east, in the region of Hochsteiermark, the road bike is also ideal for exploring the low-traffic country roads. The region is definitely still an insider tip. Quiet spots like the Niederalpl or around the Hochschwab await you here.
Pure pleasure! - Road cycling in the thermal spa and volcano region
The south-east of Styria has long been popular with the road cycling community. A number of factors come together here that are ideal for a road cycling region: a hilly topography with an extensive network of secondary roads, a mild climate and, last but not least, the culinary temptations that accompany road cycling. The thermal spas, which are numerous in the region, are ideal for regeneration.
The towns of Bad Radkersburg, Bad Blumau or Bad Waltersdorf are suitable as a base for a stay. On long rounds along low-traffic side roads, you will not only pass interesting places with historical centres, but also one or the other „Buschenschank“ small inns where local delicacies such as wines, sausages, cold meats and cheeses are served.

Eastern Styria enchants in an instant: Situated south of the Fischbach Alps, the Garden of Austria reveals an enchanting region for road cycling that offers both mountainous tours and flat and hilly routes. Starting from Weiz, there are numerous possibilities, such as tours with many metres of altitude in the direction of the Teichalm or rides into the hills of the Vulkanland.
The town of Leibnitz in Styria lies at the heart of a great racing bike region. Rides in the Styrian wine region are among the most beautiful routes Styria has to offer. The region is not called Styrian Tuscany for nothing, even though the steep climbs are more reminiscent of the most poisonous Alpine passes. Not only the tours are wonderful, but also the ambience at the wine taverns or in the village centres is inspiring.
