The municipality of Pontresina is located in the Upper Engadin in the immediate vicinity of the Swiss ski and winter sports centre of St. Moritz. Holidaymakers here have access to the three major ski destinations of Diavolezza, Corviglia and Corvatsch, which together offer around 350 kilometres of pistes. Friends of Nordic skiing will find similarly good conditions in the Upper Engadin as their alpine sports comrades. In Pontresina, in contrast to the exclusive St. Moritz, things are a little quieter. Numerous wellness oases invite you to relax after a strenuous day of skiing, and the local restaurants cater for your physical well-being with a mix of Swiss and Italian specialities.
Ski/Snowboard
Beginners and families will find Pontresina an ideal practice area for their first turns in the snow. Children up to 15 years of age ski free of charge on the drag lift and the pony lift. In addition, the children's ski school is on site in case professional help is needed. In addition to the ski slope, a toboggan run is also prepared and food and drink are provided at the Restaurant Cruscheda. For those who already dare to go to the big ski areas, three ski areas with different levels of difficulty await you around Pontresina. While you will find easy to intermediate slopes on Corviglia, Corvatsch is the area for more demanding skiers. Real experts and deep snow fans are at home in the Diavolezza ski area. The untracked powder slopes at Sass Quedar and Piz Lagalb are worthwhile destinations for freeriders. Snow acrobats will find a snow park with jumps, rails and kickers in Corviglia and Corvatsch as well as a kids' line where the youngsters can do their first tricks.
Nordic/Winter hiking
If you think that the Upper Engadin is only about alpine winter sports, you are far wrong. Around 240 kilometres of cross-country ski trails criss-cross the Upper Engadin from Maloja to Zernez, making the winter sports destination a more than charming destination for skaters and classic cross-country skiers. The winter hiking trail network is similarly well developed. Those who prefer to walk can explore the mountain world around Pontresina on 250 km of groomed trails.
