Mt. Tolminski Migovec is a stubby mountain watching over the finest village of this area - Tolminske Ravne. It is also a splendid vantage point where you can enjoy in views of the finest peaks to all four directions.

The trail to Mt. Tolminski Migovec leads through a nice beech forest to the Na Kalu Mountain pasture. From the sightseeing point, just before you reach this mountain pasture, you can admire the Tolminka Valley deep below and enjoy in views of the mountains surrounding Mt. Krn. The trail, which will initially take you through dwarf pines and later along a more rocky terrain, is routed along the southern outskirts of Mt. Tolminski Migovec and includes several sections above a pretty precipitous terrain which require caution. When you reach the mountain pass, turn onto the trail on your right (the trail to the left leads towards Mt. Tolminski Kuk) which will initially steeply ascend and then take you along several bends across the wide plateaued level section to a large pyramid on the top of the mountain. On this splendid sightseeing peak you can enjoy in views of the entire Bohinj-Tolmin Ridge to the north, the peaks of the Dolomites Mountain Range to the west, if the weather is clear, the hills above the Baška grapa Valley to the west, and the Adriatic Sea in the background of Mt. Matajur to the south. Return along the same trail.

Author’s recommendation

There is no water source along the trail. During the summer and autumn months you should bring a sufficient supply of water and sun protection. The terrain beneath the mountain pass is quite rocky.

- crossing the area beneath Mt. Tolminski Kuk, Mt. Zeleni vrh and Mt. Podrta gora to the foothills of Mt. Vrh nad Škrbino and by joining the marked trail to the Razor Mountain pasture beneath the sloped wall of Mt. Vrh nad Škrbino.

Destination

Mt. Tolminski Migovec (1,882 m)

Turn-by-turn directions

In the village of Tolminske Ravne, start following the marked trail to the Razor Mountain pasture. When you pass the field gate at the end of the pasture, turn sharply uphill to the left and follow the marked trail to the Na Kalu Mountain pasture. When you reach the last stable on the mountain pasture you will notice the signs directing you to the left towards Mt. Tolminski Migovec. The trail is initially routed through dwarf pines, however, the terrain becomes rocky when you have to cross the area. When you overcome a quite long crossing trail you will be faced with a somewhat unfriendly steep ascent along a rocky terrain which will take you to a mountain pass where you will be able to notice two trails. Turn sharply uphill to the right along a steep trail which gradually levels up. It will initially take you through dwarf pines and later across the karst plates to the plateaued top. Return along the same trail.
