Gesäuse

The Gesäuse is located in Styria. The steep Gesäuse mountains with rock faces up to 1000 m high and the valley of the Enns river cut deep into the mountains are characteristic of the area. The name "Gesäuse" is derived from the "roar and roar" of the Enns, which winds thunderously through narrow gorges. Steeply towering mountains, dark mountain forests and lush green alpine meadows make this sparsely populated area an oasis of peace for those seeking recreation.

Outdoor activities in the Gesäuse

A 110 km network of hiking trails opens up the area for gentle tourism. Climbers can enjoy the challenging routes at the Hochtor and the Peterscharte. The mountains of the Hochtor group are among the most popular climbing mountains in the Ennstal Alps. In winter, the long ascents attract ski tourers to the deserted mountain world. The Gscheideggkogel and the Lugauer are particularly popular destinations. After the sporting activity, the rich culinary offerings of Admont and Altenmarkt a.d. Enns are a great way to replenish the calorie stores.
